Choose the Right Processor Speed for a Computer

A computer processor, often considered the brains of the machine, has the most significant effect on performance and price. If you want a computer to be able to keep up with technology over the next few years you should invest in a fast processor.

Step1

Think about what you will be doing with your computer for the next 3 years. That is about the timeframe for machines these days.

Step2

If you are just using your machine for casual use, such as word processing, web browsing and the occasional card game, consider an Intel Pentium Dual Core or AMD Sempron processor. If you prefer Macintosh machines, look into an Intel Core 2 Duo.

Step3

If you are a middle of the road user, who likes all of the above things but also the occasional heavier game and multimedia use (i.e. pictures and mp3s), an Intel Quad Core would be better. The Quad Core is also great for heavy online multimedia games and heavier multimedia use.

Step4

If Macintoshes are your taste and you are a heavier user, the Intel Dual Quad Core processors can take care of all your needs.

Step5

If your budget allows it, try and spend as much as you can on the fastest processor. This is because technology evolves at a very fast pace and your machine will be able to keep up after a few years.

clean your Windows registry with free registry cleaners

The Windows registry is where programs register themselves with the operating system. Unfortunately, this can be bogged down by adware, viruses, or just too many programs and files. This is how you can clean up your registry and improve your computer's performance.

Step1
One of the good free registry cleaners I use is the Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. You can download this at http://www.eusing.com.

Step2
After you download this you should install it, and then click the Scan Registry Issue link. This should bring up a list of all the broken registry items you have.

Step3
Select all the problems and click Repair Registry Issue. This should clean up all the cruft. Your original registry would be backed up.

Step4
After you clean up the registry you would need to restart.

Step5
Another free registry cleaner that works well is CCleaner. You can download this at http://ccleaner.com. The steps to cleaning your registry is similar to the steps of Eusing. It is very easy to figure out.

Clean an LCD Computer Screen

LCD computer screens are particularly delicate. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. They are not designed with the human touch in mind, which makes cleaning LCD screens something to take seriously. If the right products or methods are not used when cleaning LCD displays, you risk damaging them. LCD monitors are a very expensive component to replace, take care to clean them wisely.

Step1
Mix 1/2 and 1/2 Isopropyl Alcohol and Distilled water in a small spray bottle. Shake up well.

Step2
Spray cleansing solution onto a microfiber cleansing cloth or eyeglass cloth, slightly dampening it. You don't want it wet. Do not spray directly onto your screen.

Step3
Unplug your LCD computer monitor and wipe GENTLY, making small circular motions. Unplugging your LCD screen is an important step, do not neglect it. This further protects your fragile pixels from damage during cleaning.

Step4
Purchase a quality protective computer filter. This acts as a sort of screen over your screen. It helps protect your screen from debris as well as pointing fingers. Additionally, they are designed to protect your sensitive eyes from the potentially damaging glare from the computer screen.

Clean Your Computer's Desktop

Having a desktop on your computer with a million icons in random places not only looks bad, but makes it very hard to find things. Here are some steps to declutter your computer's desktop.

Step1
Delete unused shortcut icons. Think of all the shortcuts that you created when installing various programs. Do you really use those applications enough to warrant a shortcut? Probably not. Shortcuts should be reserved for the programs you use the most -- most likely your preferred browser and favorite games!

Step2
Create new folders and label them with categories such as "Office Documents" and "Family Photos" and then move those files into their respective folders. This helps declutter your desktop, and also organizes all your files in the process.

Step3
Use a higher resolution. Bigger screen resolutions gives you more screen real estate, and allows you to work with your files in an easier and more convenient manner. When you use smaller screen resolutions, you can only show so many files on your desktop at once.

Step4
Move any personal photos and documents into your Documents folder. There is generally no reason why you should have personal files on your desktop, especially if you are sharing this computer with someone else. Keep them organized in appropriate folders off the desktop, and leave your screen real estate for the most important applications only.

Step5
When you've forgotten what your wallpaper looks like because of all your icons and you are too lazy to do the steps above, simply right click on the desktop and choose the View option. Then, disable the "Show Desktop Icons" feature, and all your icons will disappear until you turn this option back on!

Check How Many Backlinks a Website Has

Backlinks by definition are links that point back to a given website. They are also known as inbound links, or inlinks. The number of backlinks a website has plays a significant part in how that site will rank in the search engines. This article will teach you how to find out how many
backlinks a website has.

Access to the internet

Step1
Log on to http://www.yahoo.com.

Step2
Type the following command into the search bar: link:http://www.examplesite.com. Replace "examplesite.com" with the actual website that you are researching. Remember to put the "http://" before the website address, as Yahoo will not return the proper results without it.

Step3
Click "Web Search".

Step4
Yahoo will return the number of pages found in its index, as well as the number of backlinks (a.k.a. inlinks) for whatever site you typed in. If you want to see the total amount of backlinks to every page of a given site (not just its home page), click the drop-down arrow beside the "to:". It will give you the choice of seeing inlinks only to that particular URL ("Only this URL"), or to the entire site ("Entire Site"). Choose "Entire Site" to get a total number of links for the entire site.
